I was neither a girl of money worship nor foreign worship until seeing a film named “Mediterranean”, which was awarded the Oscar Award for Best Foreign Film and directed by Gabriele Salvatore in 1991. The movie took the world war two as the setting, when 8 Italian soldiers stationed on a Greek island of the Aegean with a mule. However, the local isolated and beautiful surroundings set the soldiers back on their way to fighting in the war. What's more, they played football, painted frescos and even pursed personnel love. The climax was brought by the soldiers' refusal of leaving this paradise after a warship coming for carry them home. Thought the theme of this movie is anti-war, I was impressed in the sightseeing there and relax lifestyle. The colorful landscapes of garden scenes overlooking the Mediterranean ocean, balconies, homes, or typical villa scenes were exactly suitable with the old tale: wives of the local fishermen painted their homes in distinct vibrant colors to make it easier for their husbands to distinguish their home from the rest when they go out at sea. This is echoed in the paintings, which show interplay of light and color that suits many different decorating themes from contemporary beach decor to country cottage themes. If you're a fan of Mediterranean Oil Paintings, one must subject in almost every art printings – fishing boats can be noticed obviously, which is my favorite part.
You may ask me WHY?
The reason can be listed below. According to the traditional custom of the ancient time in China, only recluses have the priority to enjoy the pastime of sailing boats in the still lake. I'm a lazy girl who is dreaming of living leisure life after several-year fighting, traveling the most beautiful places around the world like Provence in France and Aegean in Grace. As the Haizi (who is a famous poet in China) said “I only with to face the sea with spring blossom”, the sailing boat in the oil paintings capture the isolated atmosphere which reflects my feeling thoroughly.
“Life is probably a movie as well as a Mediterranean oil painting; you're the director or the painter.
